What this blueprint gives you

A two-sided microstock marketplace built for the serious independent photographer. Buyers browse a full-bleed catalog by keyword, category, and license type; creators upload batches, write metadata once, and earn per download with a transparent royalty ledger that shows exactly which shots are generating income.

The creator studio is the heart of the product. Every uploaded image gets its own earnings page — download count, license tier, referrer data, and a per-month revenue chart. No black-box quarterly statements; revenue is visible the day a license is sold.

The catalog is built for discovery, not noise. Full-bleed thumbnails, fine-rule chrome, and serif metadata keep the editorial register of the photography itself. Buyers filter by orientation, color palette, subject, and license tier without leaving the grid. A one-click lightbox surfaces full-size previews and metadata before committing to a license.

Licensing is explicit and fast. Buyers choose from Standard (web, social, print under 500k runs) or Extended (broadcast, merchandise, unlimited print) at checkout. A royalty-clear certificate is generated and stored on the buyer’s account for every transaction — no attribution required, no chasing licenses later.

The payout surface treats creators like the small businesses they are. Earnings accumulate, a configurable threshold triggers a payout request, and a detailed statement shows each licensed image, its buyer’s sector, and the gross and net amounts. Tax form collection and annual summaries are built in.

Five planning documents — BRAND, MRD, BRD, PRD, DESIGN — at senior-team depth, covering catalog architecture, license enforcement, creator onboarding, payout rails, and the editorial design system that keeps the product feeling like a gallery, not a search engine.

BRAND — Stock Photo Marketplace One line The marketplace that treats a photograph as inventory, not decoration. Who it speaks to Primary: the working independent photographer Maya Reyes is 32. She shoots on weekends — urban landscapes, architecture, street scenes, macro nature — with gear she bought herself. She has a catalog of roughly 4,000 processed images sitting in Lightroom. She sells on Getty as a contributor but earns $18 in a good month and has no visibility into which images are moving

DESIGN — Stock Photo Marketplace Design intent Editorial gallery meets professional financial ledger. The catalog is full bleed photography; the chrome is a fine rule and a serif label. On buyer surfaces, the product disappears behind the image. On creator surfaces, the product is a precise, data dense tool — a dashboard that looks and feels like a well designed editorial analytics tool, not a generic SaaS admin panel. The visual register is that of a serious magazine's digital presence: high qu

MRD — Stock Photo Marketplace Market summary The stock photography market generates approximately $4B annually at the global level, dominated by Getty Images, Shutterstock, and Adobe Stock. These three platforms collectively control contributor terms, set effective royalty rates (often 15–35% of display price for non exclusive contributors), and provide minimal per image performance data. Contributors with fewer than 10,000 active images are algorithmically deprioritized regardless of image qual

BRD — Stock Photo Marketplace Business model A three revenue stream model designed for two sided marketplace dynamics. 1. Platform fee on license transactions (primary) The platform charges a percentage of each license transaction — taken from the photographer's floor price, not added on top of the display price. Default platform fee is 30% for non exclusive listings; 20% for exclusive listings (where the photographer removes the image from competing platforms). The buyer pays the photographer's

PRD — Stock Photo Marketplace Product summary A two sided microstock marketplace. On the supply side: a creator studio where independent photographers upload images, write metadata, set price floors, and track earnings per photograph with full transparency. On the demand side: a keyword driven catalog where buyers browse full bleed photography, preview at full quality, choose a license tier, check out in under two minutes, and receive a royalty clear certificate stored on their account.
